The 12th Annual Novices Swimming Championship 2019 was held on the 22nd February, at the Sugathadasa Indoor Swimming Complex, where thousands of swimmers from across the island into played for the ultimate Schools’ Novices title as well as respective individual titles ranging from Under 10 to Under 20.

St. Matthew’s College, Grade 8 student Mohamed Diwan, who participated for this event, won the first place for breaststroke 50m, 3rd place for Individual Medley 200m and 5th place for freestyle. Furthermore, he broke his own records as well as last year’s 2018 Aquatic Novices record and was qualified for “All schools’ Aquatic Novices Championship 2019′ where only top 8 will be qualified for next level.

Mr.Krishan Duminda the Secretary of SLASA / Director (sports) Education Department (Southern province) awarded him the certificates and the medals to Diwan. We wish him all the best for his future.
